6Open the app, verify your identity, and run your first trade. Most people are done in one sitting on a normal connection.
How do I create a Payroid account?
Download the Payroid app on iOS or Android, open it, enter your email, set a password, and follow the in-app prompts. The whole flow takes under three minutes on a normal connection.
Is Payroid available outside Nigeria?
Not at v1. We settle to Nigerian bank accounts only and operate under Nigerian law. We will announce new markets as we launch them.
What do I need to start trading?
A Nigerian bank account in your own name and a valid government-issued ID. We walk you through identity verification on first use.
How long does verification take?
Most users finish identity verification quickly. Edge cases that need manual review can take up to one business day.
Can I trade from a browser instead of the app?
Not at v1. Payroid is mobile-first by design. The rate-lock and payout machinery is tuned for the app. Web access is on the roadmap.
What's the smallest trade I can do?
Gift cards typically start at $5 face value. The exact minimum is shown per brand on the sell screen before you submit.
Gift cards
8Which brands we take, what cash-receipt vs e-code means, and why a reviewer always touches the card before naira moves.
Which gift card brands do you accept?
At launch: Amazon, Apple, Steam, Google Play, Razer Gold, Visa, eBay, Walmart, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Nike. We add brands based on user vote inside the app.
What card formats are supported?
Digital codes, e-cards from email, physical cards via clear photo, and image uploads from your phone gallery. If the brand is on our list, the format works.
What if my card code fails validation?
Our system validates the card before the rate locks. If validation fails, you see why immediately and no funds move. If validation passes but the card redeems short, we cover the difference and tell you why.
What happens if I sell a card I don't own?
Selling a card you don't lawfully own breaches our Terms of Service. We work with brands and law enforcement on fraud cases. Don't do it: the trade will be reversed, the account suspended, and the case potentially reported.
Can I sell a card with partial value remaining?
Yes. We rate the card on its remaining balance, not its face value. We verify the balance during validation before locking the rate.
Can I sell multiple cards in one trade?
Each card is its own trade with its own locked rate. You can submit several back-to-back, but they settle as separate transactions for clean record-keeping.
How should I photograph a physical card?
Clear focus, good lighting, the whole card in frame, code unobscured. We auto-detect and prompt for retakes if the image is unreadable.
How do you set the rate for a specific card?
Live market data, refreshed continuously. Different brands and denominations have different rates because their downstream resale markets are different. The screen shows the exact naira value before you submit.
Bills
7Top up airtime, settle the disco bill, pay DSTV, all from your Payroid balance, no second app or second login.
Which bills can I pay?
Airtime and data (MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9mobile), electricity (all 11 DISCOs), cable (DStv, GOtv, Startimes), internet (Spectranet, Smile, Swift, ipNX), and water (Lagos Water Corp, more states rolling out).
What if I enter the wrong meter or smartcard number?
We validate every account number against the provider in real time before debiting your wallet. If validation fails, nothing leaves your balance. If validation passes but the provider rejects payment, we auto-reverse within an hour.
Do you charge a service fee on bills?
We charge what the biller charges plus a small flat fee for the rail. The exact split shows on the trade screen before you confirm.
Can I set up auto-pay?
On the roadmap: recurring bills and auto-renew on data bundles are part of the v1.1 release. For now everything is one-tap manual.
My electricity token didn't arrive. What now?
Within the hour, tap the trade on your history screen and pick 'Reissue token.' If that fails, our support team can lookup the transaction directly with the DISCO.
How fast do bill payments confirm?
Airtime and data are usually instant; electricity tokens and cable subscriptions come through quickly. If anything stalls, support has it on radar before you do.
Do bill payments earn rewards or cashback?
Not at v1. Payroid does not run a points or cashback program. Our value is the lock and the speed, not loyalty marketing.
Payouts & banking
6Settlement to many Nigerian banks. How payouts work, what happens on a public holiday, how to change your default account.
Which banks do you settle to?
GTBank, Access, UBA, Kuda, Opay, Zenith, First Bank, Wema, Stanbic IBTC, FCMB, Sterling, Fidelity, Union, Polaris, Keystone, Heritage, Palmpay, and many more. New rails added based on user demand.
Can I split a payout across multiple banks?
Per-trade routing to a chosen bank is live at launch. Split payouts (e.g., 60% to your spending bank, 40% to savings) are on the roadmap.
How do I change my bank account?
Add a new account in app settings. It must be in your own name and we verify it via micro-deposit. You can then route specific trades to specific accounts before submitting.
What if my bank account name doesn't match my Payroid name?
Bank account must be in your verified legal name. Account-name mismatch will trigger a hold pending verification. Use the official name on your ID for both.
Do payouts work on weekends and public holidays?
Yes. Our rails run 24/7. NIBSS settlement may add small delays on bank holidays for certain banks; you'll see a notice on screen if so.
Are there daily payout limits?
Yes, aligned with CBN-prescribed limits per KYC tier. Limit details are shown in app settings and lift as you transact more and complete higher-tier verification.
Account & verification
9How tier limits work, what we check on a BVN screen, and the security choices that protect you while a card is in flight.
Why do I need to verify my identity?
Quick check so we know it's really you. Keeps scammers off the platform and your naira safe in your own bank, not somebody else's. One time, and quick.
Which documents do you accept?
Any valid Nigerian government-issued ID: NIN, BVN-linked passport, driver's licence, or voter's card. We may request a selfie to confirm the document belongs to you.
My verification was rejected. What now?
Common causes: blurry photo, expired document, mismatch between name and bank account. The rejection screen tells you exactly what failed. Resubmit and we re-review within an hour during business days.
What are KYC tiers?
Tier 1 unlocks basic trading with light verification. Tier 2 lifts limits with full ID + BVN/NIN. Tier 3 is for high-volume users with additional source-of-funds documentation. CBN sets the framework; we follow it.
Can I have more than one account?
No. One account per person. Multiple accounts breach our Terms of Service and trigger automatic suspension.
I forgot my password.
Tap 'Forgot password' on the login screen. We'll send a reset link to your registered email. If you've lost access to that email too, contact support with your account details and ID for manual recovery.
Do you support two-factor authentication?
Yes. We support biometric authentication (Face ID, fingerprint) and TOTP authenticator apps. SMS-based 2FA is intentionally not offered. It's vulnerable to SIM swap attacks common in Nigeria.
How do I change my registered email?
Settings → Account → Change email. We send confirmation links to both the old and new address for security.
How do I close my Payroid account?
Email support@payroid.co with the subject 'Close account.' We confirm any balance, settle it to your bank on record, and close the account within 7 business days. Some records are retained for 5 years per AML regulations.
Fees & rates
4The rate you see is the rate you get. Where today's number comes from, what spread we keep, and why nothing is added after submit.
Does Payroid charge a service fee?
Our cut and the rate margin are shown itemized on the trade screen before you submit. Nothing hidden, nothing added later. If it's not on screen, we're not charging it.
Can the rate change after I see it?
You see the live rate and the fee before you commit, and what you agree to is exactly what's on screen. Take the time you need to read the fees and check the bank, and what you confirm is what gets signed into your receipt.
Do you charge VAT on fees?
Where applicable, VAT is included in the displayed fee. Your receipt itemizes the VAT component for your records.
Safety & disputes
7If the receipt and your bank disagree, we cover the difference. What to do if a card is rejected, how a complaint reaches us, what we can reverse.
Is Payroid secure?
Account data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We follow CBN AML/CFT regulations and the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023. Suspicious activity is reviewed by our Compliance team and reported to the NFIU when required.
What if someone uses my account without permission?
Email support@payroid.co immediately with the subject 'Account compromise.' We freeze the account within minutes, investigate within 24 hours, and reverse fraudulent transactions where we can.
How do I file a complaint?
See our complaint process for full timelines and escalation paths to CBN Consumer Protection, FCCPC, NDPC, SEC, and NFIU.
When do I get a refund?
Trades that fail validation never debit you, so there's nothing to refund. For voided trades, locked funds release within minutes. For disputed trades resolved in your favour, refunds settle to the original bank account within 24 hours.
Do you screen against sanctions lists?
Yes. We screen against UN, OFAC, UK HMT, EU, and Nigerian sanctions lists. Matches are blocked and reported as required.
What counts as suspicious activity?
Patterns that don't match your profile: sudden velocity spikes, structuring around limits, counterparties on watch lists, or inconsistencies between declared funds and actual transactions. Our AML Policy details our monitoring.
I lost my phone. What do I do?
Log in from a new device with your email and password, and biometrics re-enrol on the new device. If you can't access your email, contact support with ID for manual recovery. We freeze the lost-device session immediately on report.
App & tech
5Which iOS and Android versions we run on, why the app needs camera access for receipts, and how to reset a stuck session.
What devices does the app run on?
iOS 15+ and Android 8+ at launch. The app is built in Flutter; performance is similar on both platforms. We test against budget Android devices common in Nigeria.
The app keeps crashing.
Force-quit and reopen. If it persists, update to the latest version from the store. Still crashing? Send a screen recording to support and our engineering team triages within the day.
Does the app work offline?
Most of the app is online-first by necessity: rates, settlements, validations all require live connection. Your transaction history is cached for offline viewing.
What languages are supported?
English at launch. Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin are on the roadmap based on user demand.
How do I try beta features?
Settings → Beta program. Beta features are behind a flag and we mark them clearly so you know what's experimental. Feedback comes directly to the team.
Receipts & records
4Every trade signs to a downloadable PDF. How to pull a year of trades for your accountant, why we keep timestamps to the second.
Where can I see my transaction history?
App home → History tab. Searchable, filterable by asset, brand, status, and date range. Goes back to your first trade.
Can I export receipts as PDF?
Yes. Tap any trade and select 'Download receipt' for a signed PDF with asset, rate, fee, timestamp, and settled bank. Tax-grade documentation.
What's on the receipt?
Trade reference, date and timestamp (WAT), asset and amount, locked rate, fee breakdown, final naira amount, settled bank, settlement timestamp, and a digital signature for tamper-evidence.
Do you provide annual tax statements?
Per-trade PDF receipts are available at launch. Consolidated annual statements (a year's trades in one PDF, totals broken down by category) are planned for v1.1, by the next tax cycle.
Business & merchants
4High-volume sellers, small shops, integrations. What a business account unlocks, how a settlement-only API will work, when custom rates apply.
Do you support business accounts?
Yes. High-volume traders and merchants get custom rates, dedicated rails, and reporting tooling. Email hello@payroid.co to set up a business account.
Do you offer an API?
A settlement-only API is in private beta. Available to vetted business accounts processing significant volume. Ask via hello@payroid.co.
Are there volume discounts?
Yes. Custom rates kick in above certain monthly volume thresholds, set on a per-account basis. Negotiated transparently with no hidden floor.
Can I receive payments through Payroid as a merchant?
Not at v1. Payroid is a one-way cash-out platform today. Merchant payment acceptance is on the longer-term roadmap.
Notifications
5Push, email, in-app. What we send while a trade is in flight, what you can mute, and why we never use SMS for sign-in codes.
Do you send push notifications?
Yes, for trade confirmations, rate alerts (if enabled), and account-security events. Granular controls in Settings → Notifications.
What emails will I receive?
Trade receipts, security alerts (new device, password change), and occasional product updates. No marketing spam, promise.
Do you send SMS?
Only for time-critical security events (e.g., suspicious-login warnings). We don't use SMS for 2FA. SIM swap risk in Nigeria is too high.
Can I set rate alerts?
Yes. Settings → Rate alerts. Notify me when Amazon US goes above ₦X, or Steam crosses ₦Y. Push only at v1; email and SMS alerts on the roadmap.
How do I turn off notifications?
Settings → Notifications has per-channel toggles. You cannot disable security-critical alerts; those exist for your protection.
Didn't Find It? A Human Will.
In-app chat for a trade in flight, email for paperwork, Telegram for everything else. A real person picks it up, not a bot.
